How Depth Moves a Driveway Quote

This is the general industry pattern a flat local quote is built from, not a Rockford-specific rate card. A standard two-car driveway is the baseline; a long rural drive or a lot with a turn runs toward the top of each tier.

SnowfallTypical driveway price
1 to 6 inches$65 to $110
7 to 12 inches$105 to $165
13+ inches$130 to $250+

What moves the price

A Few Things Determine the Number

  • How much snow fell and how deep it is
  • Driveway or lot size
  • One-time call versus a season-long contract
  • Whether salt or ice melt is applied

What's always included

No Add-On Fees

  • A flat quote before anyone shows up
  • Full clearing, not just a single pass
  • Sidewalks and entrances included on a driveway visit, not just the main surface
  • One invoice, no line-item surprises

Two ways to pay

Per Storm or Per Season

Per storm. You call, it gets cleared, you pay for that visit. No commitment, and nothing owed in a winter that barely snows. The tradeoff is that you are calling during the same window as everyone else, so you are scheduled behind the people already on a standing list.

Season contract. Every storm over an agreed depth, usually two inches, is handled automatically without you calling. You are on the route before the storm starts. Priced for the season rather than the visit, which means a heavy winter costs you nothing extra and a light one is money you did not strictly need to spend. The full math is on the seasonal contracts page.

Rockford averages roughly 30 to 36 inches of snow a year, typically spread across somewhere in the range of eight to twelve plowable events. That is the math to run: at eight or more visits, a season contract usually comes out ahead. Under that, per-storm wins. Nobody knows which kind of winter it will be in advance, which is the real reason both options exist.

Straight answer

Why Nobody Quotes a Firm Price Online

A two-car driveway and a 200-foot rural drive with a turn are not the same job, and no honest number covers both. What you can get in one phone call is a flat quote for your specific address, given before anyone is scheduled and not revised afterward.

Be suspicious of two things. First, a per-inch price with no cap, which turns a big storm into an open-ended bill. Second, a quote given without anyone asking your driveway size or whether the street plow has already come through, because both change the work substantially and a quote that ignores them gets revised later.

Commercial work is quoted differently again. Lots are usually priced as a season contract rather than per visit, because a business cannot afford to be deciding whether to call at 4am. Commercial snow removal covers how that works.
