Roof Snow Removal
A heavy, wet snow load does real weight damage long before anyone sees a leak. Roof clearing before it gets there, done from the ground or the roof depending on the job.
Roof snow removal is raking or clearing accumulated snow off a roof before the weight or an ice dam becomes a problem. In the Rockford area it typically runs $200 to $500 per visit. Sourced from HomeGuide ($200-$500) and Fixr's 2026 roof snow removal guide (national average range $250-$500, average $300). Large, steep, or multi-story roofs run higher; a flat number needs the roof seen or described first.
What's included
Every Roof Call Covers This
- Snow raked or cleared from the roof edge and eaves
- Attention to valleys and flat sections where weight collects
- Gutters checked for ice blockage while we're up there
- Flagged early if what's forming is already an ice dam, not just a snow load
When to actually worry
Most Roofs Are Fine. Here's What Isn't Normal
A roof built to code in northern Illinois is engineered to hold a lot more snow than most people assume. One storm is almost never the problem. What causes real trouble is snow that never fully melts off between storms, building layer on layer across a whole season, especially wet, heavy snow versus dry powder.
- Interior doors that have started sticking partway through winter
- New cracks in drywall or ceiling, especially near the roof's edge
- Visible sagging along a roofline or over a porch or garage
- Icicles that have grown past a foot or two, a sign ice is already damming at the edge
- More than roughly a foot of snow sitting on a flat or low-slope section
Any one of those is worth a call. None of them mean the roof is about to fail, but they mean the load is worth getting off rather than waiting to see.

If You're Already Seeing Icicles
Heavy icicles along the edge, or water stains starting to show up inside near the roof line, usually mean the problem has moved past a snow load and into an ice dam, which is a different job. Ice dam removal covers what that is and what it costs to fix.
