How much does snow removal cost?
Residential driveways typically run $30 to $100 per visit. Commercial lots run $100 to $400+ per visit, often as a season-long contract, either per storm or as a season contract. How fast can you get to my driveway after it snows?
Same-storm scheduling is standard. Snow removal is not a scheduled trade, though, so anyone promising an exact minute during an active storm is guessing. Calling before the storm rather than after puts you earlier in the run, which matters more than anything else you can control. If you have to be out the door at a specific time, say so when you call, because that changes the order.
Do I need a season contract, or can I just call when it snows?
Either works. A one-time call is priced per visit with no commitment, and you owe nothing in a winter that barely snows. A season contract means every storm over an agreed depth, usually two inches, is handled automatically without you calling, and you are on the route before the storm starts. Rockford averages roughly 30 to 36 inches a year across somewhere in the range of eight to twelve plowable events, so at eight or more visits a season contract usually comes out ahead.
What if it snows again right after you leave?
Multi-pass storms are normal here. The most common reason for a second call is the street plow coming back through and re-blocking the driveway approach. Clearing the approach again is a small job rather than a full second visit, and it is priced that way.
Does the city clear my driveway?
No. The City of Rockford plows streets, arterials and emergency routes first and residential streets second, with its own published figure for finishing residential routes at roughly 12 to 14 hours once a storm hits two inches. Driveways, sidewalks, and the plow ridge left across your driveway approach are all the property owner's responsibility.
What's the difference between residential and commercial pricing?
Residential covers a driveway and sidewalk, priced per visit. Commercial covers a parking lot and drive lanes, priced either per storm or as a flat season-long contract, since a business or property manager needs guaranteed clearing before opening every time.
Do you apply salt or ice melt?
Yes, on request, for both residential and commercial jobs. It is quoted with the visit rather than added to the bill afterward. A driveway that is plowed but glazed over by morning is not actually cleared, so on most jobs it is worth the small addition.
Can I set this up for a parent or a rental I don't live at?
Yes, and it is a common request. You can arrange and pay for a property you do not live at, with confirmation once the work is done so you are not guessing from another town.
What about the pile the plow leaves at the end of my driveway?
That ridge is called a windrow, and clearing it is part of a normal driveway visit. It is the heaviest snow of the whole storm because the plow blade has compacted it, and it often refreezes solid overnight, which is why it is worth clearing before it sets rather than after.

Do you clear sidewalks without doing the whole driveway?

How much does roof snow removal or ice dam removal cost?
Roof snow removal typically runs $200 to $500 per visit, depending on roof size, pitch, and access. Ice dam removal, which is clearing an actual ridge of ice backing water up under the shingles, runs higher, typically $600 to $1,800 and averaging around $1,200, since it's a more involved and often urgent job.
What's the difference between per-storm pricing and a seasonal contract?
Per-storm (also called per-push) pricing means you pay only for the visits that happen, with no commitment. A seasonal contract is one flat price for the whole winter, covering every storm over an agreed depth automatically. Rockford runs roughly eight to twelve plowable events a season, so a contract usually comes out ahead past eight storms; fewer than that, per-storm wins.
